The Future is Now

If I sat with you for 10mins, will I leave with more information about your past or a peek into the thrilling prospects of your future? Is your conversation dominated by heavy tales of yesteryears and the trials of today, or are your words filled with the exciting promise of the new things you are birthing?

Our words give up away. Like a compass, they show the direction we are headed. We say what we are full of and what we believe. According to Brian Tracy, successful people always speak of what they want, but unsuccessful people talk mostly of what they do not want. And we all have whatever we say.

Abraham Lincoln said, "the best way to predict the future is to create it." This implies taking responsibility for the tomorrow you want. A great place to start is a clear vision of what that tomorrow would look like. Script the story you want. You control the narrative. For this, you have no limits. Just imagine it, as clearly and as detailed as you can, with all the emotions associated with realizing that dream.

Today was yesterday's tomorrow. And tomorrow will be born from today. So, filling your heart with what you want and letting it displace what has been brings tomorrow into today. Stephen Covey calls this "beginning with the end in mind". It is a cardinal principle for effective living.

Now that you have a clear picture, translate it into powerful words. One characteristic of God our Creator is that He calls the things that do not yet exist as if they already do. This is how He creates new things out of nothing. You are made in His likeness so imitate Him and start calling into being things that do not exist yet. Speak about the promise of your future as a present tense reality, as if it has already happened.

Challenge: Write out a dream, as a present reality. Writing "I weigh 75kg" is better than writing "I will weigh 75kg". Carve out 60 seconds every day to say it to yourself and be grateful it has come to pass. Call those things that are not as though they are and start creating the future now.
